94Fifty™ Sports Technologies Inc. has launched the first virtual skill competition using technology that turns real-world skill into a virtual score. Its technologies are the first to objectively measure and count basketball skill, and it provides instant scores updated on the web. Athletes in the greater Boston area will compete against those in greater L.A. to determine which city produces the best ball-handlers.

Attleboro, MA, August 25, 2009 – 94Fifty Sports Technologies has announced the first ever simultaneous virtual skill competition between athletes in two different cities. Using its patent pending technologies that capture more than 6,000 measurements per second, the Company will host skill test and diagnostic events in both regions throughout the 2009 basketball season.

94Fifty’s revolutionary technology, embedded inside the basketball, captures the motion of the ball and creates a precise diagnostic of the player’s muscle memory skills in just two minutes of drills. The specialized balls transmit signals about the rate of dribble, control time, spin rates, and many other factors, which are then processed through pattern recognition software to create an instant score and skill analysis for athletes.

“We are extremely excited about this event because it will demonstrate the true potential of our innovations to achieve our vision, which is to allow any athlete or team to compete with any other athlete or team anywhere on the planet, in real time” Said Michael Crowley, Company Founder and CEO. “With our technology, we can test hundreds of athletes, in multiple locations at the same time, with results posted instantly.”

The Company expects to test thousands of athletes from both regions between September 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010. To determine the winner, it will accumulate precise scores from all athletes who take the test and use the averages from the top 25 scores from each region. In addition to the Boston vs. L.A. competition, which will be updated weekly on the Company’s website, top individual scores, town scores, and top youth league scores will also be updated and available for athletes to follow.

Attleboro, MA (August 15, 2009). The Discovery Channel recently recognized 94Fifty Sports Technologies, located in Attleboro, MA, (www.94Fifty.com) as one of ten technologies transforming sports. Already utilized by a number of teams at the professional and collegiate level to assess player skill, 94Fifty designed its technologies to help players of all ages, their coaches, and parents to score and track the development of critical fundamental basketball skills.

The 94Fifty system, launched in 2009, can measure motion that the human eye can’t see. Using sophisticated sensors embedded inside the ball, the technology captures the quality and progression of a player’s muscle memory, hand-eye coordination, hand speed, and motor skill proficiency, all of which are critical building blocks for success in the game.

“Based on our work with some of the top professional teams and trainers in the world, we think 94Fifty has produced the only technology of its kind that can measure a player’s skill.” Said Michael Crowley, Company Founder and CEO, “In the past, it has only been possible to measure athletic ability. But we know that young athletes can’t control how tall they will be or how high they can jump. What they can control and improve very quickly with the right information and coaching, is their skill. We provide precise, measurable, diagnostics combined with personalized coaching that has never been done before. ”

The technology was launched in 2009 after several years of development, and the Company has tested its first product, the Handle IT ball-handling assessment, on thousands of players across the country from the 6th grade all the way up to the professional level. “Basketball, and in many cases soccer, are games designed to require a player to have very strong muscle memory skills. They are unique sports because athletes can’t look at the ball when the player is moving, which requires athletes to learn to train their muscles to do things automatically. This technology can measure that development in a way that gives coaches, players, and parents an objective method to score, compare and track their improvement on the most important skills such as ball-handling and shooting.” Said Crowley

Other technologies listed in the Discovery Top Ten list included a computer that can be swallowed in the form of a pill to monitor heat exhaustion and artificial muscles made from carbon nanotubes. 94Fifty’s technology is designed to allow players to train in completely new ways and to compete with anyone on the planet in real time. “It’s designed to be very simple to use, and many times people don’t even see the technology unless they are told that it is inside the ball.” added Crowley.

94Fifty Sports Technologies announced today that it has now tested the ballhandling skills of thousands of basketball players, producing more than one million dribbles from locations across the U.S. The Company’s ballhandling tests, lasting just two minutes per player, measure hundreds of dribbles to capture the control, speed, and consistency of a dribble.

Attleboro, MA (July 31, 2009) 94Fifty now estimates that it has analyzed over 1 million dribbles from athletes across the U.S., representing over a hundred million pieces of information. Its first product, called the 94Fifty Handle It test, measures the muscle memory, hand speed, and coordination of basketball players of all ages. It can instantly capture, analyze and score an athlete’s ballhandling skills, providing athletes and coaches a rich diagnostic of this critical foundation for the game.

“We are extremely pleased with both the durability and accuracy demonstrated by our technologies to date,” said Kevin King, primary inventor of much of the Company’s technology. “The technology is designed to look simple and to be relatively unnoticed by the athlete, but in reality it is very sophisticated. We have now shown that it is exceptionally durable and precise.”

The Company utilizes an array of sensors embedded inside of basketballs, which communicate wirelessly to receivers outside of the ball. Proprietary pattern recognition software counts the results and sends the results to athletes within 30 seconds of completing a set of pre-defined dribbling drills. The Company believes it is the only technology of its kind in the world that can produce this level of precise athletic diagnostic. “Because we have now tested so many athletes, we are confident that our data and scoring algorithms are very accurate, and thus very useful for the athlete.” Said King.

The Company offers its tests as part of league and team diagnostic testing packages. In addition, the Technology will enable the Company to promote and manage virtual skill competitions for players of all ages from across the country.

94Fifty Sports Technologies was invited by a number of NBA teams to provide ball-handling diagnostic information during the 2009 pre-draft workout period. The results were provided onsite to more than 25 NBA teams and added a new dimension for how highly skilled athletes can be evaluated before the draft.

Attleboro, MA (June 25, 2009). 94Fifty Sports Technologies announced today that it tested the ball-handling skills of 20 of the 60 picks in the 2009 NBA draft. The Company was invited by multiple teams to demonstrate its skill diagnostic services and reports as part of the evaluation process prior to the draft. The Company showed how efficiently it could capture, analyze, and compare the skills of some of the world’s top players.

“We are extremely proud to have been a part of this process and to provide a new set of information to NBA teams,” said Michael Crowley, 94Fifty Founder and CEO. “While teams use many factors to determine which players are the right fit for their franchise, we were able to demonstrate a new capability for teams, and potentially the league, to gather rich new forms of objective data prior to making an investment in a player.”

The Company was invited by the Houston Rockets to test over 40 players during two separate workouts in Houston, and by the New Jersey Nets during a workout in June. In total, over 70 different draft-eligible players were tested.

“The results are consistent with what we see every day,” added Crowley. “The best players at the highest level can handle the ball, even tall players typically considered post players. Our results continue to demonstrate that ball-handling is a critical skill for young players to develop regardless of their height or position”
The Company plans to launch a series of test products with its technologies, including precision analysis for shooting, athleticism, and core strength. Its mission is to become the world leader in providing precision diagnostic and complete skills profile information about the player. Ultimately, 94Fifty will bring each of its products to the mass market so that athletes of all ages, anywhere on the planet, can compare their skills to the top athletes in the world.
