FAQ

Can I feel the sensors in the ball when I dribble?

No – the sensors are embedded in the ball and completely secured from any bouncing. The ball looks like a normal basketball and you won’t notice the sensors inside.

Is the ball regulation weight and bounce the same?

Yes, our basketballs are engineered so that you cannot tell the difference between a game spec ball and our sensor basketballs.

Why do I have to wear goggles for ballhandling drills?

The system is designed to test your skills and to compare them. To make sure everyone takes the drill in the same way without an advantage, we make everyone wear goggles. Great ball handlers can dribble without looking at the ball, they keep their head up, which allows them to see the court, create shots, and create shots for others. Without the goggles, some people might look at the ball which gives them an unfair advantage. The goggles ensure that everyone is compared the same way.

What does the ball count?

The short answer is that the ball counts everything, and in millisecond increments. For ballhandling, we count things that we as humans can’t perceive, such as the number of dribbles, how long you lose control of the ball, how long the ball stays in your hand for each dribble, the average dribble time, ball spin, and many other elements. For shooting, we measure shot speed, back spin rate, and shooting arc both at release point and as the ball enters the rim. Our statistics tell us what is important and we use that information to create a score and a complete diagnostic to generate personalized workouts for players and coaches.

What is a good score?

The bottom line is that the higher the score the better. Even though we count different things that have different units of measure (i.e., number of bounces is not the same as average dribble time in milliseconds), we have created a system to turn all scores into a similar number. The higher your number, the better the score. Average scores begin in the 60’s, while above average scores begin in the 70’s. Anything above 75 is approaching a great score.

What is the most important thing I can do to improve my score?

The first answer is to practice your ball handling or shooting with the right mechanics and the right game speed. The only way to get good at ballhandling and shooting is to practice the parts and repeating those mechanics over and over.

Are men’s scores separate from women’s scores?

Yes, our scores are separated by gender, so a score of 78 on the women’s side is relative only to the best women’s scores we have tested, but is not comparable to a score of 78 on the men’s side.

Can I compare my scores to specific NBA or College players?

Not yet, but we are working to bring this option to you in the future.

How many times a year should a program that owns 94Fifty test its players?

94Fifty programs have no limits to the number of times they can give a test, but we recommend that with a proper skill development regimen, players should be tested at a minimum of once per month, but best case every other week.
